Oban

Earlier this week we slipped off to Oban for the night, which is a little resort town on the west coast of Scotland. It was so much fun, despite a very wet day of rain on Monday - here are a few pictures if you'd like to see....(storm clouds and all!):

We thought Oban was the sweetest little town...on Monday afternoon when we arrived, we walked around and popped into the little shops there - including this one, with homemade soaps and lotions.

We also stopped into Cuan Mor, a restaurant where they brew their own beer, which Ryan tried and loved. It was such a cozy thing to do on a rainy afternoon.

Oban is known as the "seafood capital of Scotland" so we had to eat a lot of fresh fish, obviously. We tried Waterfront Fishouse for dinner and Ee-Usk for lunch the next day. Both were spectacular, and the mussels at Ee-Usk were some of the best I've ever tasted.

Ryan has been getting into langoustines lately, which are a large shellfish, like a lobster or a big prawn....and everywhere we go, we now eat sticky toffee pudding for dessert!

We stayed at Kilchrenan House, which was a great B&B right on the water. In the morning we watched the ferry going back and forth between Oban and the Isles. This is silly, but my favorite part of  the B&Bs here are the toast holders they bring out to the breakfast table every morning! I'm thinking of getting one for home...

On Tuesday morning we bundled up and walked into town...

....where we did a distillery tour at Oban Distillery! We were an unlikely couple there, since I'm not drinking these days and Ryan was driving home later that afternoon, but it was still really interesting to learn the whisky-making process. Did you know that in Scotland, whiskey is spelled without the "e"?!

Afterwards, we walked up to McCaig's Tower, the Colosseum-like structure that sits on the cliff above the town and has great views over the bay.

Ryan got a new Scottish hat too! And, a belly shot for those of you who asked for one....

Thanks for all of your sweet emails and messages after we shared our big news last week! We're very excited. Anyway! We would both highly recommend Oban if you're in the area!
